Shypple and ForestNation's commitment to environmental impact
Shypple offers a variety of projects to its customers, and one of these initiatives is the reforestation program in Tanzania in partnership with ForestNation. This project aims to address environmental and social challenges while actively involving local communities.
How does this program work?
The impact of tree planting is substantial, as each tree planted can offset one tonne of CO2 emissions over a span of 40 years. Shypple takes a unique approach by planting ten trees to compensate for one tonne of CO2 emissions, achieving this goal in just five years.
To put this into context, 1 TEU from Shanghai to Rotterdam, including first and last-mile delivery, generates approximately 1.2 tonnes of CO2 emissions. At a cost of only 0.30 cents per tree, this means that offsetting the emissions from your 1 TEU container from Shanghai to Rotterdam costs just $3.
Why did Shypple choose to partner with ForestNation?
ForestNation is actively engaged in a tree-planting initiative in Tanzania with an ambitious target of planting 100 million trees to restore 90,000 hectares of land. When you plant a forest in Tanzania, the trees are carefully cultivated in nurseries and planted under favorable conditions. What makes this initiative especially impactful is the involvement of local communities in safeguarding and maintaining these forests. This not only aids in carbon sequestration but also provides income, food, employment opportunities, and environmental education to local residents.
Credibility and validation
The "Plant for the Planet" Trillion Tree Campaign, endorsed by the United Nations Environment Programme, serves as the official registry for all the trees planted in this initiative.
Additionally, ForestNation consistently offers updates by providing periodic images of the forests they have cultivated through their reforestation efforts. Moreover, they provide a user-friendly interface on the ForestNation dashboard that allows you to actively track the progress and growth of the trees you've contributed to.
Shypple and ForestNation focus their tree planting efforts in Tanzania's Eastern and Western Usambara regions, which have experienced significant deforestation over the past 15 years, adversely affecting local communities. Through tree planting, Shypple and ForestNation not only contribute to carbon offsetting but also provide opportunities for a better life for the local population. The trees planted include fruit-bearing varieties such as peach, loquat, banana, moringa, plum, and orange, which will not only combat climate change but also provide sustenance to the local population as they mature.
